St Quentin la
Poterie
Saint
Quentin la Poterie is a medeival village located in an area called the Uzege,in the heart of the Avignon
Nimes Ales triangle. To the west of the Rhone, the Uzege covers the basin of Uzes and its garrigues,
which are bordered by the valleys of the Ceze and the Gardon. It occupies a privileged geographical
position: within a 80 km radius, you can find the most spectacular Roman sites. The Mediterranean and
the
Cevennes are only an hour's drive away, and Provence is the immediate
vicinity.
The village's very name evokes its vocation, pottery. The kilns had been working in the outskirts of
St. Quentin la Poterie since the 12th century, but the arrival of the railroad signaled the decline in
production. The last firing of bricks took place in
1954.
With a supermarket, a pharmacy, 2 cafes, a discotheque, 4 restaurants, 3 hairdressers, bakeries, pastry
shops, a florist,a tobacco shop and atleast 10 potters St Quentin is an active village.
In mid-July, approximately a hundred artisans from all parts of France and from other countries gather to
celebrate a Ceramics Festival. This event attracts
thousands of visitors.
Traders sell their produce at the weekly market that is held on Fridays.
